Project 3: The Cyclical Nature of Insomnia (Final in progress)

  1. The colors are really disorientating and applied with the blurry aspect of the picture it makes it hard to look at for more than a few seconds. It quite possibly be to much, but on the other hand it fits perfectly for the theme you are going for.

  2. I really like the inclusion of the journal page and text. Perhaps you could repeat this technique in the background with another page from your journal.

  3. to illustrate the cyclical nature here i think you could dedicate another portion of the image to the effects of having no sleep during the day

  5. I love what you've done with the background and the eyes, I can feel the frustration of insomnia. I would suggest maybe moving the hands of the clock so that they are not right in the middle of your face. Or adding more hands to signify the loss of reality and loss of time.

  6. I like how pained the eyes look. For me when I cant sleep, the first thing I feel is a burning sensation in my eyes, and this I think shows that well. I think what might be fun is making the numbers on the right start to become more and more abstracted, much like the writing on the face, to indicate that your sense of perception of time is also being distorted. Maybe making the numbers overlap the face, because when I cant sleep, looking at the clock gives me a sense of panic, and the longer I am awake, the more important and upsetting those numbers become. Perhaps you could make them almost dominating towards the bottom of the canvas. I like how you have a progression of time from top to bottom.

  7. the face, the clock, and the text on the face are really well balanced and blended together. My eye wants to focus on that point, but at the same time is distracted by the far upper right corner. I would think about changing the colors a little bit, or maybe applying some of the colors that are in the face, also in the background.

  8. image is looking good, nice work. a radical suggestion would be to increase canvas size and buy back some real estate considering this image never existed. the face takes up so much of the canvas, you limit the potential of other (possibly more interesting) shapes to break up the picture plane. What would this image look like as a kalieescope pattern or rectangle inside a rectangle to create a relationship with the image and background. try to take more chances with the composition, you can always go back to the original document. nice work tho, Kimmy
